5 Excellent Supporting Characters

Attention! Possible spoilers!!

These characters had, for me, a great impact in my experience in the following games. Whether it’s their personalities or their lines at certain times, I believe the games in question wouldn’t be the same if these characters didn’t exist.

Of course, the main character is always the most important, but if there is someone by his side who can give him even more sparkle, then these are some of the cases. Some of the following names can be controlled in certain games, but still, in general, they always end up being someone secondary and who accompanies us throughout the adventure. Some of them may even be considered main characters, but I didn’t want to leave them out.

Before I start, I just want to say that obviously the names that follow are some of my favourites and it doesn’t mean at all that they’re the best in this matter.

In the end, don’t hesitate to leave a comment with your favourite names.

Captain Price (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019)

With his first appearance in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007), Captain Price began to stand out as the most charismatic character in the Modern Warfare saga since that moment. The “version” of the character I want to mention is relative to the last entry in the Call of Duty series. His always very peculiar humor and his personality, whether in moments of tension or more relaxed, always left me with a wide smile on my face. The incredible “motion capture” done in the reboot of Modern Warfare, ends up raising even more the veracity of Price and all his composition as a character. Quite honestly, I hope this last Modern Warfare was not his last appearance.

Chloe Price (Life is Strange – First Season)

Yeah, a second “Price” character. Is that a coincidence? Maybe not. Chloe Price is a high-profile character in the first season of Life is Strange. She’s a young rebel who likes to have a good time without thinking about the consequences of her actions. She’s also someone with high levels of depression from the disappearance of her best friend, Rachel Amber. Above all, a character who accompanies Max (main character) throughout the adventure of the first season, and who ends up making the whole experience even more interesting. In fact, the final decision of the season will be related to Chloe, which gives her even more prominence.

Clementine (The Walking Dead – First Season)

Clementine made our first season even harder than it already was. Having to care for a helpless child in a hostile environment like the zombie apocalypse, was no easy task. The end of the season managed to give her even more importance, considering the final events. From here on, the following seasons led us to witness her growth and, at the same time, never forget how it all began.

Delilah (Firewatch)

delilah

For many, this may be a somewhat strange choice. But for me, it was someone very important in my Firewatch adventure. Delilah is the voice behind the intercom, the voice that guides us through the whole adventure, or most of it. Her somewhat sarcastic mood was also one of the aspects that I liked about her personality and that was noticed very early on.

The progress in the game makes you get to know the character a little better and when there’s a silence in the communication, I ended up missing her conversation, whether it was more serious or in a tone of play. Delilah turns out to be a somewhat mysterious character but, at the same time, familiar when you’re in contact. Although we never met her personally, her voice was powerful enough to make me feel accompanied in a rather lonely adventure regarding human contact.

Goro Majima (Yakuza franchise)

majima

Although we can control Goro Majima in Yakuza 0, Yakuza: Dead Souls and Yakuza Kiwami 2, I see this character as someone secondary in the Yakuza series. That’s because it wasn’t until after the four main games in the series, in terms of narrative, that we had the opportunity to play with him. It’s in Yakuza: Dead Souls, a spin off, that we’re allowed to be in the shoes of this peculiar character for the first time. His eccentricity is unique and so is his way of being in combat. It’s in Yakuza 0 that we have the opportunity to play with him again; witness his growth as a character in the series and discover the reason for the eye patch, among many other situations hidden until that moment.

In Yakuza Kiwami, Majima has a special “adoration” for the main character in the series, Kazuma Kiryu, and chases him constantly on the streets with the objetive of picking a fight. It may sound strange but, in a way, this is directly linked to the events of Yakuza 0. Above all, for all those who like Yakuza or have not yet had the chance to play any game of the saga, Goro Majima is a character who does not go unnoticed.

  1. I haven’t played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Firewatch so I can’t comment on their characters but I completely agree with Chloe Price, Clementine and Goro Majima. In the case of Life is Strange and the Walking Dead Telltale series, there is no doubt that those characters drive the emotion of the story. In the case of Yakuza (I’ve only played Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami so far), Goro acts as an excellent foil to the usually calm and collected Kiryu.

    1. Firewatch is a very small game but that delivers a quite unique experience. I wrote a piece about it though its only in Portuguese for now. I need to translate more stuff though I don’t wanna scare portuguese readers with so many English content every day. :\ Anyway, take a look at Firewatch trailer, you might like it. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. 😉
